To Celebrate Sophie

We want to thank you for the kind words you have shared, and for the food and drink that has been already brought to our home. The candlelight prayer service outside our house last night was beautiful and touching. We are truly truly blessed and humbled by your love and support and we invite you to celebrate Sophie's short life on Earth with us.

The visitation will be:

Wednesday October 10, 2007 6:00-9:00pm
Thursday October 11, 2007 2:00-4:00pm and 7:00-9:00pm

Busch Funeral Home
21369 Center Ridge Road
Fairview Park, OH 44116
(440) 333-9774

Sophie's Mass of the Resurrection will be held:

Friday October 12, 2007 10:00am
Holy Spirit Church
410 Lear Rd.
Avon Lake, OH 44012
(440) 933-3777

Many have asked if "pink" is the theme, (if there is such a thing at a funeral) and although Sophie did love pink for the first couple years of her life, she spent the last year or so really embracing all the other colors, and when recently asked her favorite color, I remember her most as saying, "I like them all." She always had a fondness for rainbows and I remember my Mom teaching her the acronym Roy G Biv as a way to remember the order, when she was only 2 years old. So just as Sophie was accepting and loving of all the colors in her life, I invite you to appreciate all the colors in your life and think of Sophie each time you are blessed with the sight of a rainbow.

Donations can be made in Sophie's name to

I can't seem to find words to express my deepest sympathy and love for you all. I have followed Sohpie's story for sometime now and I was just shocked when I found out the news she has gone to be with Jesus. I am glad she is no longer confined by the cancer and has wings of grace to fly all over heaven. I am sure she is having fun with all of her friends and Jesus. I pray that God gives you peace and comfort and strength to take each day in stride, minute by minute and second by second. Sophie's love will always surround you, guide you all, and watch over you all forever.

Much love and prayers from Kansas.

Fly high Sophie! Spread your beautiful wings and fly!

My heart truly aches over the loss of sweet little Sophie. There is nothing fair about the hand that was dealt to her and your family. We've been praying so hard for her everyday, and now we are praying for your family for strength and inner peace. I honestly thought that she would make it--that she would have been the "Miracle Child".

When I lost my father, a kindly old woman told me that, "Whatever the cause of our heart aches, that God, through Jesus will undo all of the bad. There will be no more death, sickness, nor morning one day. Furthermore, he promises to be there to wipe every tear that you weap." It is impossible for God to lie, and he always keeps his promises. One day, you will be reunited with your precious daughter, Sophie. And Sophie and little "Yahoo" will be so happy playing together, as you and Marc are standing by watching.

In the meanwhile, we must all do whatever we can to cure this most horrid disease. God bless you all, and remember, you have A LOT of people like us-whom you've never met praying our hearts out for you and your family. During this time, don't be afraid to ask friends & family for assistance--they'll be happy to help at anytime.

May God bless you, and carry through these difficult times.
Sincerely,
Susan Sapienza (mom) &
Joseph Tietz (son and student of Mrs. Segetti).

Marc and Emily,

I just want to tell you how much are heart aches for you both. I know you have heard it over and over again with condolences but we only scratched a brief surface of Sophie on our cruise and I cannot tell you how much she impacted our lives.

Today was parent-teacher conference at the school today for our children and Savannah the oldest had written a story that I would like to mail you all. She wrote of a little girl she met on a cruise and how she now wanted to be a doctor to help kids get better and that every night she thinks of Sophie and her courage and strength.......Savannah went on to write that Sophie was the most influential person in America and I sat in the chair today and cried uncontrollably as I realized what a beautiful spirit and heart Sophie has taught my children without ever saying a word to them. I will never forget that moment as I learned that Savannah won an award for her writing and that Sophie will be mentioned to all of Pink Elementary....who would have ever thought that over a thousand miles away this little girl would have touched another child so much so that this is her hero???? I know that Sophie knows her life as short as it was was forever etched in many of lives you may never realize has been touched but I can assure you that my Savannah will never be the same and I have seen that since our Cruise July 8th, 2007. I know that we will carry Sophie's courage to never quit, bravery in the cloud of fear, love in a world of pain and most importantly her beautiful never ending smile..... For as I told Savannah after the meeting today, imagine what 1 smile can do to many people!!!! Thank you for letting us into your world as hard as it may have been and thank you for showing us the true meaning of courage, strength, devotion, discipline, love, honor and compassion. your family with without a doubt will be with ours for the rest of our lives and I know that one day I will watch Savannah read her accomplishments and Sophie Quayle will be the one that by far created a pathway to that beautiful moment!!!!

Thank you both!

With all of our love, hearts, and spirit......

I learned of Sophie as one of Ethan Powell's friends through his webstie. I was especially touched by Sophie and her story, and yes, her precious smile and sparkling eyes. The 10/1/06 picture you posted the other day stole my heart.

When I logged onto the internet tonight with lots of work to do, I felt compelled to check on Sophie. I was so saddened and stunned to hear of her passing but am comforted that she is now whole.

I live in a very beautiful area of Colorado (near Aspen, in Snowmass Village) where rainbows, even very often double rainbows, are frequently seen spring, summer and fall. I will remember your precious Sophie and give thanks to her for all the rainbows that bless the Colorado sky in the future.

I hope you find peace and comfort always. My prayers are with you.

My sister and I had Mrs. Miklaski as a teacher at Riverview High School, and ever since the school's marquee had the smiles for Sophie website on it, my family has been following your story. How touched we were to hear of your beautiful Sophie and her journey.
We are keeping you in our thoughts and in our prayers.

Dear Quayle Family,

My thoughts have been nothing but of you and Sophie for the last 50 hours. I am deeply saddened by her death, but rejoice in the fact that she is happy and able to do little Sophie things again. After hearing the sad news, I immediately pictured Sophie with a big smile in heaven and Maria's arms wrapped around her. I believe they will take care of each other and watch over all of us.

I have prayed for you since February and will continue to do so. May God grant you strength and peace for all the days ahead.

God Bless,
Betsy Kaiser

I saw a small piece of a rainbow on my way into work this morning. It was wear the sun reflected off of a very small trace of a stratus cloud. I thought of Sophie and smiled. I am praying for your family.

Marc and Emily:
What are the chances? I just was driving home thinking about you and the rest of your dear family, as you all were probably on your way to Busch Funeral Home for your first hours of visitation. It was just before 5 p.m. today (Wednesday the 11th) -- and I saw a huge glorious rainbow to the East. I so hope you all saw it too. We think of you constantly. God Bless You and Comfort You,

Dear Marc and Emily,
You are constantly in my thoughts and prayers. Yesterday, I kept thinking about what a painfully difficult day this would be for you. Heading to the High School, I left my home early last evening probably shortly after you left on your way to the Busch Funeral Home. As my husband and I arrived at the Avon Lake High School for parent teacher conferences, I looked behind me and saw a beautiful glorious rainbow. I thought of Sophie and hoped that you too saw the rainbow. We wish you many rainbows, strength to get through these painful days, and love, hope and comfort for your future.

Marc & Emily:
I am a stranger to you both yet your story has touched me deeply. I am a member of IHM parish in Cincinnati & came to the parish after you left. I've seen your beautiful daughter's picture everywhere and joined in many prayers for her health over the last year. I am a member of CRHP team 50 and we deticated our passing of the candle ceremony to your little angel. I cried, we all did, as the song "Go Light Your Wrold" played and we all realized how this little girl is still bringing people closer to Christ in prayer and lighting our world. I know her life was short in years; I have a son her age; I am devistated for you both; but Sophie has reached so many people. More than most do in an 80 year life span. I know you must be exhausted from your fight, but please know your daughter will never be forgotten. Even by the strangers, like me, your baby girl has left behind so much love in this world. Thank you for your courage and sharing your story. Love, Angie Ellis

Dear Marc and Emily,

Although you don't know us, we have been VERY deeply moved and touched by Sophie's story, which we became apprised of by one of Sophie's uncles, who works at a local sports retailer here on the 'west side'. We were out shopping with our 2 year old daugther Sophie the other day, and us casually mentioning our daughter's name 'caught the ear' of one of the employees there (your Sophie's Uncle), who held out his hand to show us his 'Smiles For Sophie' bracelet, and proceeded to tell us what it meant and about this beautiful website. We cannot even begin to know your heartache and pain, but we just want to express our deepest sympathy and condolences to you during this difficult time, and as you honor and cherish Sophie's memory forever. Thank you for your courage and your grace.

With love and deepest sympathy and respect,

George and Valerie
